Whitney M. Young Magnet High School Graduate Going Into Space

NASA announced on May 17th, 2006 crew assignments for two 2007 space shuttle missions to the International Space Station. Joan Higginbotham, Whitney M. Young Magnet High School graduate from 1982, will be going on her first mission, STS-116, as a NASA mission specialist.

Born in Chicago, Illinois on the 3rd of August, 1964, Ms. Higginbotham was a student at Young from 1978 to 1982. She graduated with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Southern Illinois University in 1987 before joining NASA in 1987.
