It is with great sadness to inform you of the passing of the first Principal of Whitney M. Young Magnet H.S., Mr. Bernarr A. Dawson.

Mr. Dawson was the Assistant Principal of Du Sable H.S.,

the principal of Du Sable Upper Grade Center, the principal of Calumet H.S.,

the First principal of Whitney Young H.S. and the Superintendent of District 17 Chicago Public Schools.

 

Mr. Dawson retired in 1989 and continued to work for CPS as an Consultant and at De Paul University as a specialist in School Achievement Structure under Dr. Barbara Sizemore until 2004.
